Actor Jensen Ackles is sharing his thoughts about his Countdown castmate Eric Dane.
During a June 2025 interview with People magazine, Ackles referenced that Dane revealed he was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) in April 2025. Ackles, who portrays Detective Mark Meachum on the Prime Video show, described Dane as "an incredible human being."
"I was thrilled to get the opportunity to work with him, but even more so to get to know him as a person. He brought a kindness, and a leadership, and an experience to the set that I think we all fed off of," said Ackles to the publication.
In addition, he said Dane is in "fight, not flight" amid his health battle.
"I'm just overly proud of Eric and his strength and what he's doing and dealing with and this journey that he's on. I'm proud to know him, but I'm even more proud to be his friend," said Ackles during the People interview.
Ackles and Dane, who plays Special Agent Nathan Blythe in Countdown, discussed their friendship during a joint June 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight. Ackles said he was "nervous" and "excited" to co-star alongside the 52-year-old because he had "known of him for many, many years."
"I was really excited to meet up with him and get to know him. It didn't disappoint. It was better than I had hoped. We immediately kind of clicked. There was an instant kind of ride or die relationship that formed," said Ackles during the interview.
Dane agreed with his co-star's assessment about their dynamic. In addition, he said the entire Countdown cast has good chemistry. Dane also said Countdown has been "a welcomed distraction" following his ALS diagnosis.
"It's also kept me moving forward. It gives me a sense of purpose. And I love going to work with these people. So that's an added bonus," said the father of two.
