No cohort embodies the perception of success, based on material wealth, better than billionaires. Their lifestyle, influence and habits remain a timeless topic of interest and fascination. Whether it’s their conspicuous cars and sprawling mansions, or their behind-the-scenes projects like interplanetary space travel, we pay attention.

President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are among the most high-profile billionaires in the country. Despite their policy disagreements culminating in one of the most intense feuds in recent memory, the two men still have one thing in common: a lavish lifestyle.

Inside Trump’s World

Long before politics, Trump was synonymous with wealth and opulence. The bulk of his wealth came from real estate, and he regularly appeared on television series like “The Celebrity Apprentice,” a move that paid dividends — millions tuned in nightly, allowing him to create reputable brands and a wide array of businesses, including the Trump Organization, Trump National Golf Clubs and Trump International Hotels.

Given his success in the business world, the billionaire-turned-president continues to live a life of luxury. For instance, his esteemed Mar-a-Lago property encompasses 20 acres of land (around 15 football fields), featuring 58 bedrooms, 33 bathrooms, gold-leaf detailing and 36,000 Spanish tiles and Italian marble. According to NPR, the property was built in the 1920s for approximately $7 million ($128.5 million in today’s dollars).

Trump bought the property for only $5 million in December 1985 — not a bad deal, from the author of “The Art of the Deal.”

Beyond the Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump also enjoys exclusive presidential perks. Air Force One is one of his primary methods of transportation, equipped with state-of-the-art amenities including a dining room, conference room, designated rest areas, and an encrypted communication system.

When he’s not flying 600 miles per hour in the sky, the 233-year-old White House serves as his official residence and place of work, loaded with 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, 147 windows, and, for extra measure, 28 fireplaces. To maximize comfort, the Terrace cloakroom was converted into a 42-seat movie theater — perfect for days when the president craves a good movie or a sports game to watch.

The Musk Life

While Musk isn’t president, he is the world’s richest man. Interestingly, the billionaire stated he doesn’t own a home back in 2022, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t fancy the finer things in life.

According to Business Insider, he purchased a Gulfstream G650ER private jet for an estimated $70 million, the same model owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Flying just 60 minutes costs $3,662 — nearly three times the average weekly earnings of an American worker, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

Frequenters of the luxurious jet are surrounded by lavish wood furnishings, reclining white leather seats, two television screens and 16 oval windows to gaze at the clouds.

It is also widely reported that Musk owns an enormous collection of automobiles, including the famous Lotus Esprit submarine car from James Bond, purchased for $997,000 in 2013 — as well as a Porsche 911 Turbo and a Tesla Model S, to name a few.

Final Verdict

While Musk stands as the world’s richest person and owns a luxurious private jet, his overall lifestyle and habits are relatively frugal compared to other ultra-wealthy billionaires. On the other hand, Trump is unequivocally invested in the glitz and opulence that comes with being a billionaire and a president. His access to the White House, Air Force One and Mar-a-Lago far exceeds Musk’s way of living.
