William Levy is taking action two months after his arrest.

The Cuban-American actor, 44, has been accepted into a misdemeanor diversion program following his arrest on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing earlier this year in Florida's Broward County, according to court records reviewed by PEOPLE.

A judge deemed Levy's acceptance on June 30 and noted that he is expected to complete the program by Sept. 29.

According to a description on the Broward County State Attorney's Office's website, the misdemeanor diversion program allows first-time offenders "an opportunity to immediately accept responsibility for their actions, seek rehabilitation, and divert their cases from the criminal court system."

PEOPLE has reached out to Levy's attorney for comment.

William Levy's mugshotLevy was arrested on April 14 after police responded to a disturbance at a local restaurant just after 10 p.m. local time.

The booking report alleges that Levy — whose full name is William Gutiérrez-Levy — was "highly intoxicated and causing a disturbance," resulting in him being asked to leave by the manager on duty.

The arresting officer alleged that Levy was "given multiple verbal orders to leave the property" and, after failing to do so, was "transported to the main jail."

Levy was released the following day after paying a $500 bond.

Levy is an actor best known for appearing in telenovelas.

He has appeared in telenovelas such as Acorralada, Cuidado con el ángel, Sortilegio, Triunfo del amor, La Tempestad and Café con aroma de mujer.

Most recently, he starred in Star, Montecristo and Vuelve a mí. He also competed on season 14 of Dancing with the Stars, coming in third place with pro partner Cheryl Burke.

Levy has starred in films like 2016's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and in Jennifer Lopez's music video for "I'm Into You."

The actress, 46, confirmed their split in an April 2024 interview with HOLA! amid swirling rumors and headlines about the status of their relationship.

"I loved William, I think it's no secret that he was the love of my life," she said at the time.

"Currently, we are not together. On my part, it was never for lack of love," Gutiérrez explained. "I think I'm not the same girl I was 20 years ago when he met me. What we want at this moment is different. I will always love him, I will always wish him the best, and as I have always said, being with me or not, I want to see him happy."

The couple met on the reality show Protagonistas de novela 2 in 2003 and married the same year, going on to welcome two children together.
