Joe Walsh has Ringo Starr to thank for introducing him to the love of his life.

During the former Beatles drummer’s annual “Peace & Love” birthday celebration on Monday, July 7, Walsh spoke about his bond with Starr (né Richard Starkey), 85. At the Beverly Hills, Calif., event, the former Eagles’ guitarist, 77, recalled the pair’s friendship, familial bond and his admiration for the celebrated musician.

Starr and Walsh are married to sisters Barbara and Marjorie Bach, respectively. Starr and Barbara tied the knot in 1981. Walsh and Marjorie wed in 2008.

Walsh then recalled meeting Marjorie after working on The Old Wave album with Starr's help in England. He explained, “I was at [Starr and Barbara's] house and Barbara's little sister stopped by for three minutes and I was in love with Barbara’s sister from then on,” he said.

But their love story didn’t start there. He explained, “Many, many years later,” he was at the couple’s Los Angeles home, and “saw Marjorie again and we hugged each other.” Recalling, “She said, ‘Did you feel that?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ ”

“And Marjorie has been the love of my life,” he continued. “After many years of thinking, ‘Well this--would this be incest or how this would this work and what would Rich and Barb kill me? Would they kill me?’”

“But Marjorie is the love of my life. She's a high-ranking officer in the Starkey family."

Along with crediting Starr for facilitating Walsh and Marjorie’s relationship, Walsh also shared how impactful Starr and The Beatles were to his teenage years.

He recalled hearing one of their first hits while working around 16 years old. “For me, I was a really dumb guy in Montclair, New Jersey, in high school, and I washed dishes at an ice cream place. And while I was washing the dishes, ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ came on. And from then – 1963, I think – I thought, ‘That's what I want to do! That's what I want to do!’”

“I didn't have a clue until I stood there in the kitchen and said, ‘What the hell is that?’ And I just want to say since 1963, the entire world has had somebody to love, and that is Ringo,” he continued.

A decade prior, Walsh and Starr spoke to PEOPLE about their friendship, and Walsh chatted about how he was a fan who attended one of the famed Beatles concerts in Shea Stadium, “screaming and crying with the rest of the girls.”

With time, Walsh got to know the down-to-earth side of his idol-turned-pal, whom he called “the minister of peace and love.”

“With what he’s been through, he’s completely down to earth, and he’s really a good guy,” Walsh said in 2015. “Getting to know him as a brother in law, we’re really, really good friends. And I value that with him because he gets me, and I get him.”
