Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are "doing absolutely fine" as a couple, a source tells PEOPLE

The source says Brooks being sued for rape and sexual assault — which he has denied and called a "shakedown" — "didn't affect their relationship at all"

The pair have been married since 2005

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood's marriage is as strong as ever, even in the face of Brooks' legal troubles.

The country stars, who married in 2005, have put on a united front since Brooks, 63, was sued last October by a woman who claimed the star raped her — allegations he has vehemently denied.

"They are doing absolutely fine as a couple," a source tells PEOPLE. "It didn't affect their relationship at all."

The pair made a rare public appearance together in January to perform John Lennon's "Imagine" at the funeral of President Jimmy Carter, a longtime friend.

In February, Yearwood, 60, celebrated Brooks' birthday with an Instagram post that featured a photo of them together.

"For my forever duet partner…Happy Birthday, Honey. xo," she captioned the post.

The "Friends in Low Places" singer and Yearwood also appeared in a June 19 Instagram video together that touted a July 4 event hosted by Brooks' Nashville bar, Friends in Low Places Bar and Honky-Tonk (The restaurant is giving out free hot dogs to customers starting at 2 p.m. on Independence Day).

In the cheeky clip, Brooks cooks at the grill while Yearwood relaxes on a beach chair with a beer and a book.

"Hey honey, what are we doing for July 4th?" he asks, to which Yearwood responds that they're "cooking out" for some 250,000 people.

The holiday event comes eight months after Brooks' former employee accused him of sexual assault, rape and battery in the anonymous lawsuit; at the time, he said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, "I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be."

"Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of — ugly acts no human should ever do to another. We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides," he said. "I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now. I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be."

In September, he filed a complaint anonymously as "John Doe" and denied the woman's claims in an attempt to block the allegations from going public. In the complaint, Doe accused the woman of being a "lying extortionist," and after she filed her lawsuit, he responded with a filing of his own that claimed he was the "victim of a shakedown."

All filings in the case have since been sealed.

Days before news of the lawsuit broke, Brooks spoke to PEOPLE about his marriage to Yearwood, and how they helped each other get through difficult times.

"My favorite thing about getting to be Ms. Yearwood's partner is the good times, but also going through the bad times together because that makes you one and it tests your mettle," he said. "But what you find out is you have a love that's going to last beyond this lifetime. I found her in the last life. I'll find her in the next one."

Yearwood, meanwhile, said the pair's friendship is what keeps their marriage strong.

"At the end of the day, we're best friends. We actually enjoy each other's company," she said. "People always ask us when we're on tour together, 'You're with your husband all the time, how is that?' I'm like, 'We actually enjoy each other's company and I can't imagine doing this build without you.'"
