Is Janet Jackson looking for someone to call her lover?
The Grammy-winning singer sparked romance speculation with R&B star Maxwell on Monday, July 7 after the pair were seen holding hands as they arrived together at an event in London.
Photographs and fan video shared to social media showed Jackson, 59, smiling as she and Maxwell, 52, walked hand-in-hand into the Playhouse Theatre to catch the 1,500th performance of Cabaret.
She rocked an all-white pantsuit with a slicked back bun, while the “Sumthin’ Sumthin’” singer complemented her look in all black. Other celebrity attendees at the milestone show included Eddie Redmayne and Helena Bonham Carter.

The outing comes eight years after Jackson divorced ex-husband Wissam Al Mana after five years of marriage. The two share son Eissa, 8.
“[Being a mother is] the most beautiful thing. I’m so thankful God allowed me to have this experience, this journey in my life,” she told the BBC in July 2024. “And I love every single minute of it.”
In the same interview, Jackson joked about her love life, quipping, “How many times have I been married now? Three I think” (In addition to Al Mana, she was previously married to René Elizondo Jr. and James DeBarge).
In an interview with the Guardian in September 2024, Jackson revealed she was single, but feels as though she has broken free of coercive control in her relationships.

“I’m single, so I pray to God that I might have different lenses on these eyes than I did before,” she said. “I know that if someone were to come along … even if I didn’t recognise it, I guarantee you my friends would shake the shit out of me and say, ‘What are you doing?!’ But I think I’m seeing it through different lenses now. I think I am breaking that pattern.”
In May, Jackson received the ICON Award at the 2025 American Music Awards, where she performed a set that included hits “All for You” and “Someone to Call My Lover.”
“I am so so honored. I am so grateful. I mean, no disrespect in any way, but I don’t consider myself an icon,” she said while accepting her win. “My family, myself, our dream wasn't ever to be famous. We weren't raised like that. We always had a special love for music, dancing, singing and fame came with the result of hard work and dedication. My story, my family's story is truly an American story. This would have only happened in America."
The star wrapped a 10-date residency in Las Vegas earlier this year, and has six new dates scheduled for September.
