Lily James revealed a shocking hair transformation while out in London
Days before, the actress had been spotted with her usual honey blonde locks while at Glastonbury 2025
James has previously undergone dramatic hair transformations for photo shoots and acting roles
Lily James is going to the dark side.
On Saturday, July 5, the actress, 36, stepped out in London with a dramatic new look. In place of her usual honey blonde locks, James sported dark brunette hair that fades into a deep blue-black at the ends.
The star was spotted on a casual stroll wearing navy leggings, a brown leather jacket and tan clogs. She carried a white canvas tote bag over her shoulder and wore little to no makeup.
On Monday, July 7, James showed off her new look via Instagram Stories. In a mirror selfie that appeared to be taken in a gym, the Baby Driver actress posed in a sports bra and leggings, her newly dark hair piled into a messy bun atop her head.
Days before debuting her brunette transformation, James was seen with her usual lighter hair color at Glastonbury 2025. In an Instagram post shared on June 29, the actress posed with actress Billie Piper at the festival.

The recent hair transformation is hardly James' first. In 2022, the actress donned a black wig with blunt bangs and bleached eyebrows in Versace's Fall/Winter 2022 campaign shot by famed duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Her ensemble in the campaign was also not lacking in drama; she wore a black corset with latex gloves while holding up the fashion house's new Greca Goddess bag. In another photo shared by the luxe Italian label's chief creative officer Donatella Versace on Instagram, James is wearing a corseted red dress with red boots and a red bag.

James famously underwent a dramatic transformation to play Pamela Anderson in the 2022 Hulu miniseries Pam & Tommy.
In an interview with Variety, the show's hair department lead Barry Lee Moe revealed that the actress had to go through "anywhere from three to five hours of hair and makeup every morning."

James said that the physical transformation was both "freeing and liberating" in a 2022 cover story for Net-a-Porter's Porter.
"Slowly, our incredible team found a balance where I resembled Pamela but also felt like I could act through it," the actress shared, noting that she would be in makeup for about four hours starting at 3 a.m., putting on a chest plate, wig and tan.
She continued, "I've never done anything where I look very different from myself before. And I'd really like to continue in this vein, because I felt there was something very freeing and liberating in it. There was a bravery that came from that. A courage that came from… disappearing."
