The wait is over! ABC has ordered the Scrubs reboot, with three original stars returning, and more cast announcements expected soon.
Fifteen years after the original series ended, the Scrubs reboot has been given a series order from ABC for the 2025-2026 TV season, and three original cast members have already been announced as returning.
Zach Braff, who played John “J.D.” Dorian, Donald Fraser, who played Christoper Turk, and Sarah Chalke, who played Elliot Reid, are all confirmed to be returning in the reboot and will also executive produce.. Other original and new cast members are expected to be announced soon, and fans are on the edge of their seats to see who else is coming back.
The name on most lips is John C. McGinley who played the caustic Perry Cox. McGinley is still acting regularly so fans are hoping he will sign on. Also a frequent question is Neil Flynn who played Janitor. Flynn went on to star in the sitcom The Middle and is still acting but not attached to a series at the moment so like McGinley, Flynn is a good bet to return.

Two other fan favorites are longer shots. Ken Jenkins, who played Bob Kelso, will turn 85 in August and hasn't acted since 2019 but has not officially announced retirement so there is hope. Judy Reyes who played Carla Espinosa, is a series regular on High Potential which was just renewed for it's second season with ABC but they could allow her to pull double duty since it is the same network or she could decide to return to Scrubs if given the choice.
Many other original cast members could also return and a slew of new ones are sure to be added. Fans of the original series are excited about the reboot and many of their questions are sure to be answered in the coming weeks and months as more information is released.
Scrubs was a sitcom that followed the lives of the employees of Sacred Heart hospital. The original series ran from October 2, 2001, to March 17, 2010. It started on NBC but was picked up by ABC in 2009. It received 17 Emmy nominations and won 2. Zach Braff received 3 Golden Globe nominations for his performance in the series.
